Repudiation of the Doctrine of Discovery

The Reverend Priscilla Austin serves as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seattle, Washington (ELCA). In August 2016, Pastor Austin was a voting delegate to the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) Churchwide Assembly in New Orleans, Louisiana.

One of the decisions made by that body that week was to approve a memorial on the Repudiation of the Doctrine of Discovery. The repudiation of this doctrine by the ELCA prompted Pastor Austin to write the Facebook post shown below, which is not only a personal conviction, but a call that convicts us all. -- Rev.
